"Wherever we roam, it is always great to get back home."
We are fortunate when we have a safe, secure place to call home. What makes your home your "Cozy Nest"?
Many seek for their Cozy Nests one or more items which represent fond memories of the past. Others may include items from favorite trips that remind of a "happy time" for them. There are probably as many definitions of "A Cozy Nest" as there are people and shelters where they call home.
I tend to place items that have special meaning to me in my home. I guess you could call me a "nostalgia decorator". In the photo above, I have two iron chairs that belonged to my mother, a small table created from a marble cutting board on top of an antique stool, a photo given to me by my daughter-in-law of photos she tool of a farm in our home town, and two flying ceramic geese that belonged to my first stepmother. In the below photo, over the door in my front entry, I have hung an old embroidered piece from an Irish ancestor. I imagine it was of something back in their country of origin and I don't know who made it, but imagine my step-grandfather's mother, who immigrated to America as a family with her husband, small son and daughter in the late 1800's. The parents died and my grandfather grew up in an orphanage. We have no history of what happened to his small sister. These items help me feel cozy and give me a sense of belonging, giving me my own "cozy nest." I also inherited two old oil lamps that the family brought to America, and he had turned into electric lamps. These items I cherish also.
Whatever your ideas are of a Cozy Nest, they are what you surround yourself with to create that sanctuary from the outside world.
Home ideas and decorating books share ideas with us, and when we find one particularly appealing, we often strive to recreate that space in our homes.
Others among us are more creative and come up with cozy and inviting spaces which appeal to others. I don't profess to be creative; this blog will share some of the things I find cozy and comforting, both personally and highlighting ideas found elsewhere. Please share your thoughts as we seek our "Cozy Nest."
Fondly, Phebe
